The idea behind Grey Screen Test is that ordinary average guys from the street turn up, sit on the casting couch and have a brief interview. Then see if they've got what it takes to appear in a porn movie. This is not an original concept anymore, and it needs careful handling to make sure that you get quality productions featuring amateur guys. What you do get as a result are solo porn movies made by guys who wouldn't normally do this sort of thing. And that can be very entertaining.
The tour at
Gay Screen Tests was a bit daunting. There are some distracting things there and you must scroll a full page in order to get to the previews. Mind you, when you do, you’ll overlook the shortcomings as there is a nice variety of good-looking younger guys here who got me tempted and who got my juices flowing. One look at a young, good-looking twink, a well built ebony guy and a Latino boy with a dick to die for had me ready to sign up.
I was keen to enter the members area, which is exactly what I did. In here you get the same looking pages as you did with the tour, so you have to scroll down to start looking at things. I found 49 episodes during my visit, and the best thing about them was the variety of guys taking the auditions. There is a good mix of ethnicities here. You've got ebony guys from the street, those lovely Latinos and plenty of all American males; ages vary as do body types and cock sizes. The only thing missing really were updates to the episodes. We can't be sure how often new content is going to be added as no dates are listed. Each of the episodes came with a photo set and video and, starting with the videos to see these first-time jokers in action, I went for a download. You only have the option to download full-length versions in WMV, and it took a long while to come down the line. I have to say it wasn't really that worth waiting for. It came out at 320 x 240 in size running at 300k. This is not exactly the standard we expect these days. So I was rather disappointed, and slightly confused. The streaming video was at 640 x 480 at 800k, so why not use that for downloads? Mind you, on the upside, there are no DRM restrictions and each episode ran for about 12 minutes. Ok so not a huge length of time, but then you can't expect these first-timers to know how to make one wank last very long.
The image galleries were also slightly disappointing. The pictures were on the small side, there are about 30 to 40 photos per set and they were around 340 x 500 pixels. They opened up in a strange sort of lightbox style format, which also started to get on my nerves after a while.
So, having been not terribly impressed with the quality of videos and pictures I checked out the bonus material. There are four other sites in this network, but sadly they have the same layout, which I was not keen on. You also get 32 bonus feeds sites included with your membership. The amateur theme is continued here, and there are amateurs in these bonuses, but I did have to use my login details several times in order to access these things. Another thing, which got on my nerves.
I had to conclude that there were more downsides at
Gay Screen Tests than there were upsides, but the variety of guys was great. I have to say that the overall content of the videos was okay, although the quality was lacking, navigation and design left a lot to be desired, and the download speed wasn't particularly fast.
